Australian Cattle Mustering
My encounters with the rural community of Australia are in my paintings; a pictorial journey, in many ways a journey of discovery through a completely new territory. I found it incredibly easy to connect with the country people in Australia and understand their way of life which was not dissimilar to that of their British counterparts.
Only the surroundings, climate and amazing distances were different. Riding in the High Country of Victoria, spending days working with cattle in Queensland, experiencing rain, mist and snow, hot sun and red dust.........my eyes were absorbing so many new and exciting subjects as I threw myself into the challenge of recording all this on paper.
Cattle mustering has given me a whole new perspective on farm life and the fact that these people have taken me into their hearts and homes gives the paintings a sense of total involvement. I know the names of all the subjects, people, dogs and horses I spent time with, listening to and learning from them.
